Head coach Pat Knight dressed as though he was going to a funeral during his last game as coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Knight, who is normally seen roaming the sidelines in a Tech polo shirt, pulled out his finest threads for his final game.
The Missouri Tigers might have been impressed by Knight's fashion style, but that didn't distract them from defeating the Red Raiders 88-84 and advance to the second day of the Big 12 Tournament.
Mizzou led by as many as 13 in the second half, but the Red Raiders shrunk the lead to one possession with seconds to go in the game. A Marcus Denmon free throw took Mizzou up 4 with four seconds left, which ended up being the final spread.
Denmon led a balanced Mizzou attack, with four Tigers scoring double-figures. Joining Denmon's 20 points was Mike Dixon with 17, Kim English with 15 and Justin Safford with 10 points.
Senior John Roberson paced the Red Raiders with 28 points, in what was probably his last collegiate game. Fellow seniors Mike Singletary, David Tairu, Brad Reese and D'walyn Roberts also contributed double-digit scoring in the losing effort.
Mizzou plays takes on the Texas A&M Aggies tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. CT. The game is televised nationally on ESPN2.
