Alec Burks returned home to Kansas City and didn't disappoint the legion of fans who traveled across the city to see their native son play. Burks - from the KC suburb of Grandview, MO - scored 29 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the Colorado Buffaloes' 77-75 win over the Iowa St. Cyclones.
Burks' 29 weren't good enough for game-high, though, as Jake Anderson scored 33 in a losing effort for the Clones.
Iowa State led most of the way and entered intermission with a narrow 28-26 lead and led by as many as six in the second half.
CU didn't take their first lead of the second half until a Burks jumper with 1:14 remaining gave them a 74-72 advantage. Iowa State didn't make another field goal until a relatively insignificant lay-up by Anderson with three seconds left in the game. Before that lay-up, the Clones went 0-3 from the field after CU had taken the lead which allowed the Buffs make enough free throws to keep the game out of reach.
CU now plays the Kansas St. Wildcats on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. MT. During the regular season the Buffs swept the Wildcats.
