Results: Big 12 Point Spread Game Predictions: March 5, 2011

The last Saturday of regular season Big 12 action is now in the books so it's time to take a look back at the actual results from yesterday games. It turned out to be another pretty good week for me as I went 5-1 against the spread, but there were plenty of times watching these games that I did not believe that was going to be the case though.

Game Spreads and My Predictions From Yesterday Below.

MY PREVIOUS RECORD PICKING AGAINST THE SPREAD: 26-12

MY CURRENT RECORD PICKING AGAINST THE SPREAD: 31-13

Kansas Jayhawks at Missouri Tigers - Bill Self and the Jayhawks are a 3 point favorite on the road.

MY PREDICTION:  Wow tough one right out of the gate, I could see this game going either way. Even though we all know Missouri is a different team at home I don't think they are playing great ball right now and Kansas is rolling. Although the last time I thought KU was rolling was right before the road game in Manhattan. Even though Missouri is undefeated at home so far this year I am going to pick KU to win the game outright and cover the spread.

RESULT: In a foul filled contest the Jayhawks pushed out to a double digit lead but had to hold on late for a 70-66 victory. So KU covered the spread and its a good start for me.

1-0

Iowa State at Kansas State - The Wildcats are a 13.5 point favorite at home on Senior Day.

MY PREDICTION: Jacob Pullen's last home game in his career comes against an Iowa State that is looking to knock off KSU for a second straight year on Senior Day in Manhattan. First off you have to be impressed with the effort that Fred Hoiberg and the Cyclones are showing as they had every reason to pack it in and just try to finish out the year quietly but they have went out and beat NU & CU in their last two games. I think this game may be closer than what some people think, gonna say Iowa State is competitive and hits some 3's and K-State wins but does not cover the spread.

RESULT: The Wildcats won 67-55 in a much closer game than the final score would indicate as the Cyclones held a lead in the second half of this contest at one point. It looked for a time like K-State might get a backdoor cover but Iowa State quit fouling and I got my second game of the day correct.

2-0

Texas Tech Red Raiders at Texas A&M Aggies - A&M is favored by 10 at home.

MY PREDICTION:  Even though Tech has shown the ability at times to step up and make some games close and A&M doesn't have the firepower other teams do I still like A&M to win this game rather easily. Going to go with the home team here to win and cover the spread.

RESULT: This was only a 4 point game at the half but the Aggies opened the lead up in the first five minutes of the second half and cruised to a 66-54 victory. So far so good for me on my picks.

3-0

Oklahoma State Cowboys at Oklahoma Sooners - Another round of Bedlam and the visiting Cowboys enter as a 1 point favorite.

MY PREDICTION: Can't say I have been impressed by either team here lately and this one is pretty much a toss up game in my opinion. Just gonna throw a dart basically and go with the Cowboys to win the game on the road and cover the spread.

RESULT: The Sooners snapped an eight game losing streak and beat the Cowboys by a score of 64-61. A tight game throughout, OU just always seemed to be keeping Oklahoma State at arms length in the second half as the Cowboys could just never grab the lead. I probably should have gone with OU looking back on this as the game was in Norman but my first loss of the day.

3-1

Nebraska Cornhuskers at Colorado Buffaloes - The final regular season meeting between the two traitors leaving the Big 12 and the Buffs are only a 5 point favorite at home in this one.

MY PREDICTION:  Very interesting game here as both teams had legitimate chances to make the NCAA Tournament but couldn't beat Iowa State on the road. In my opinion this line is way too low and is easily my favorite bet of the day. As much as I hate to jinx Alec Burks & Cory Higgins I would say the Buffs should win this game and easily cover the spread. (Naturally this means bet everything on the Cornhuskers)

RESULT: The Buffs get the win at home by a score of 67-57. CU jumped out to a big early lead as they started the game on fire and you would have thought it was going to be a blowout but credit Nebraska as they got the lead down to five by halftime and kept it competitive. While the Buffs won and covered the spread like I thought, expected this to be a bigger blowout but a win is a win.

4-1

Texas Longhorns at Baylor Bears - The Longhorns enter as a 4 point favorite on the road.

MY PREDICTION:  So here is another game where who the heck knows which team is going to show up for either squad. Baylor can look great at times and at other times simply just play matador defense and jack up bad shots while Texas has suddenly dropped 3 out of 4 games. I think Baylor will come out with a lot of energy in this game but I think the Longhorns find a way to rise up and pull out a game to kind of right themselves here late. I like UT to win and cover the spread here.

RESULT: In the finale Texas got a much needed victory on the road against Baylor by a score of 60-54. This was a game that saw Texas get out to lead only to have Baylor come back and open a lead up themselves then see Texas pull it out late in the second half. So the Longhorns get the win and the cover here.

5-1
