NCAA Tournament Preview: Texas vs. Arizona - Can Horns Reach Sweet 16?

New, 4 comments

When the seedings were announced, everyone -- myself included -- thought that the Texas Longhorns got a raw deal with a 4-seed. But after Friday's performance against Oakland, the committee may have been justified in their seeding.

After trailing by eight at halftime, the 13-seeded Oakland Grizzlies mounted a comeback but ended up four points shy of the victory.

Today's game will be as much of a challenge for Tristan Thompson and the Horns. On Friday, Thompson had to battle Summit League Player of the Year Keith Benson, a beast of a player and potential NBA draft pick.

Today Thompson will have to meet up with Pac-10 Player of the Year, the Arizona Wildcats' Derrick Williams.

Williams is pretty much the Wildcats' offense. As the only double-digit scorer on the team, averaging 19.1 points per game, the offense runs through the brawny forward who doesn't seem to have too many holes. Williams shoots 61.3 percent from the field, 75.2 percent from the line, and despite not having taken a ton of three, he is shooting 61 percent from behind the arc. Simply stated, Williams is a complete player and complete stud.

Despite Williams, I still feel Texas' depth and balanced attack should enable the Horns to move on and send Zona packing.

The game tips tonight at 5:15 p.m. CT and can be seen on TNT.
