Reports: Billy Gillispie To Be New Head Coach at Texas Tech

Well according to numerous reports surfacing about the internet, Billy Gillispie interviewed with new Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt yesterday in Boca Raton, Florida.

Apparently the meeting went well as it was then reported that Gillispie was then en route to Texas via a private jet with Texas Tech representatives. Unless contract parameters are extremely far off between Gillispie and the school one would have to expect that a deal is going to get done fairly quickly.

Gillispie is a proven coach in the Big 12 and even though his stint did not work out with Kentucky most everyone feels that his connections in the State of Texas will allow him to be successful coaching in that region again.

Credit Texas Tech for making a move with Pat Knight when it was obvious the program was stuck in the mud and things weren't going to get moving. Also credit needs to be given for Tech for not sitting around and allowing Gillispie to possibly end up at one of the other job openings like Oklahoma.

A school like Texas Tech needs to make a splash with their coaching hires and drum up support and this should do the trick.

An announcement may not come till Monday as that will be Kirby Hocutt's first official day as athletic director at Texas Tech. Not a bad way for a new AD to gain some goodwill with his fanbase and maybe more importantly with the big money boosters.
