Big 12 Basketball Power Rankings - Week 7

New, 9 comments

Another slow week because of the Christmas holiday makes the impact of each win and loss larger. But can you smell that? Yeah, it's conference play right around the corner!

1. Missouri Tigers

Overall Record: 12-0
Last Week's Record: 1-0
Last Week's Ranking/Movement: 1, same
What Evan Says: The Braggin' Rights game looked like it'd be a blowout until the Tigers let Illinois back into it. In-game adjustments might be something to watch for Mizzou.

2. Baylor Bears

Overall Record: 12-0
Last Week's Record: 2-0
Last Week's Ranking/Movement: T2, same
What Nathan Says: Nice win in OT vs an underrated West Virginia squad. Wednesday's Mississippi State game will be the toughest yet..

3. Kansas Jayhawks

Overall Record: 8-3
Last Week's Record: 1-0
Last Week's Ranking/Movement: T2, down one spot
What Nathan Says: I had my doubts about this team early on, but if they finish the non-conference portion with only three losses, that's definitely something to be proud of..

4. Kansas St. Wildcats

Overall Record: 10-1
Last Week's Record: 3-0
Last Week's Ranking/Movement: T5, up one spot
What Evan Says: A 3-0 Hawaii showing helps K-State creep even closer to the top. Keep in mind their only loss was in 2OT to WVU, but that Jan 4 game in Lawrence looms large.

5. Texas Longhorns

Overall Record: 9-3
Last Week's Record: 0-1
Last Week's Ranking/Movement: 5, down one spot
What E. Carnes Says: An outmatched Texas went down hard to 6th-ranked UNC last week. Their next opponent should be easier to handle — the Longhorns face Rice on Saturday.

6. Oklahoma Sooners

Overall Record: 9-1
Last Week's Record: 1-0
Last Week's Ranking/Movement: 7, up one spot
What Evan Says: Oklahoma hasn't played the most difficult schedule, but they're winning games they should be winning and beating some that we thought they might struggle with. A depleted Cincy team in on the docket this week.

7. Texas A&M Aggies

Overall Record: 8-3
Last Week's Record: 0-1
Last Week's Ranking/Movement: T5, down two spots
What E. Carnes Says: A promising start may be slipping away from A&M. The Aggie are on a two-game losing streak, first to Florida, then to Rice.

8. Iowa St. Cyclones

Overall Record: 9-3
Last Week's Record: 1-0
Last Week's Ranking/Movement: 8, same
What Nathan Says: They shouldn't have ANY problem with Mississippi Valley State on New Year's Eve.

9. Oklahoma St. Cowboys

Overall Record: 6-5
Last Week's Results: 0-1
Last Week's Ranking/Movement: 9, same
What Evan Says: WARNING: Tail spin alert. Repeat, tail spin alert.

10. Texas Tech Red Raiders

Overall Record: 5-5
Last Week's Record: 0-1
Last Week's Ranking/Movement: 10, same
What E. Carnes Says: The Red Raiders had an ugly loss to Oral Roberts last week. Their New Year's resolution? More rebounds..
