Big 12 Hoops Weekend Preview

I think the thing all fans love about college basketball is its unpredictability. This season, we've seen two teams with that 1 next to their names lose already, a brawl between bitter rivals and mid-major teams effectively shedding the "mid" title from our consciousness.

That kind of crazyness is happening in the Big 12 too. Baylor and Missouri have went through their schedules with relative ease. Also, how many of you had Kansas State AND Oklahoma with one loss at this point? I didn't. And that's what makes this game great.

Since it is Christmas weekend, we only have two games involving Big 12 teams between now and Sunday and both of them will be played later today. Here we go:

West Virginia vs (#7) Baylor at the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic in Las Vegas, NV (8pm CT, ESPN)

The Bears (11-0) have passed each test they've faced this season with flying colors. Their talent will go up against West Virginia (9-2) who got a layup from Aaron Brown with 1:01 left against Saint Mary's that would prove to be the game-winner in overtime. Bob Huggins is looking for career win No. 701 versus a future Big 12 foe. A more in depth preview can be found here.

UTEP vs Kansas State at the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu, HI (4pm CT, ESPNU)

Kansas State (8-1) has been a pleasant surprise so far. They have registered wins over Virginia Tech and Alabama and now they are in the semifinals of the Diamond Head Classic. While K-State is 5th in the country in rebounding, UTEP lies at 305th. The Miners graduated their best players who took them to last year's Conference USA title game. The Wildcats should find themselves in the final on Christmas Day.

On behalf of everyone who help make this site great, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and yours!
