There were two games yesterday and four today, and yet there is only one match up of two teams who are 1-0 in conference... tonight's Oklahoma St. Cowboys versus Texas A&M Aggies showdown.
In their respective first games the Cowboys surprised many by defeating the Kansas St. Wildcats in Stillwater and the Aggies trounced the Oklahoma Sooners by 18 in Norman.
Though neither team came in with a lot of preseason hype, both are playing good ball and are trending upwards.
Oklahoma State's lone win against a ranked team came in the victory over K-State, so an impressive 13-2 record should be looked at with a grain of salt. But with the way they played against many people's preseason conference champs college hoops fan's heads should begin to turn. And with the way Marshall Moses is playing, there is no reason to think that they can't compete for an NCAA tournament birth.
The Aggies are playing exactly the kind of ball Big 12 fans are accustomed to... and that is the ‘under the radar' type. Though Khris Middleton and David Loubeau are playing at an all conference level, most casual fans wouldn't know that A&M is 14-1 on the season and quietly looking at a high NCAA seed.
And fans aren’t the only ones who don’t know much about the Aggies. During a media call on Monday, A&M coach Mark Turgeon summed up everyone’s thoughts, “We’ll know more about our team in the next four weeks; we’re playing 4 nationally ranked teams.” Don’t jump ahead to fast Coach, you still have to face the Cowboys…
Neither team puts up a ton of points - OSU is averaging 71.9 ppg and Texas A&M 72.8 - so the game should be a ground ‘em out, old school type of game.
In the end only one of these teams will head into the weekend, and for my money it has to be the home team.
