The Cowboys of Oklahoma State fell on New Year's Eve to Gonzaga 73-52. The game figured to be a hard one for Oklahoma State with many factors working against them: a long road trip, playing on New Year's Eve and an opponent on a hot streak. All these factors made the game not much of a contest.
Oklahoma State held a 17-11 lead after a Marshall Moses made basket with 11:15 left in the first half. Unfortunately for the Cowboys they would not score again until the 7:16 mark when they then trailed 22-17. Gonzaga would continue to expand the lead in the first half as they entered the half with a 40-26 over the Cowboys.
Elias Harris appears to be over his early season struggles as he scorched the Cowboys for 22 points on 8-12 shooting. Robert Sacre continued to be a force down low as he had a double double of 16 points and 15 rebounds.
The Cowboys were led by Marshall Moses who finished with 17 points. In the disappointing section were Keiton Page and Matt Pilgrim who scored 2 and 4 points respectively. If Travis Ford's team wants to make a push in the Big 12 this year they are going to need Page and Pilgrim to step their games up when it matters. Moses was the only Cowboys starter who finished in double figures for points scored.
The loss drops the Cowboys to 11-2 on the year while Gonzaga moved their record up to 9-5. Oklahoma State will have one more against a non conference opponent in Texas-San Antonio next Monday before league play begins against Kansas State.
