New, 1 comment

James Anderson (Oklahoma State) and Marquis Gilstrap (Iowa State) have been selected as the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for games of Jan. 18 - 25 in voting by a panel of media covering the Conference.  Anderson captures player honors for the third time in his career after winning twice last season, while Gilstrap is picked for a league-best fifth time in 2009-10.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
James Anderson, Oklahoma State, G, Jr., 6-6, 205, Junction City, Ark./Junction City
Anderson averaged 28.0 points and 5.5 rebounds as the Cowboys picked up victories over Colorado (90-78) and at Kansas State (73-69).  The junior forward began the week with 26 points, eight rebounds and four assists versus the Buffaloes.  Against the No. 9 Wildcats, he scored 30 points, adding three rebounds and three assists.  It was his second 30-point game of the year, as he became the only Big 12 player to score 30 or better in a game more than once in 2009-10.  Anderson shot 50 percent (16-of-32) over the two contests while connecting on 21-of-24 (.875) from the free throw line.  He has a Big 12-best 13 games with 20 points or more this season.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Marquis Gilstrap, Iowa State, F, Sr., 6-7, 215, Covington, Ga./East Side/Gulf Coast CC [Fla.]
Gilstrap has won or shared rookie accolades three times in the last four weeks.  He averaged 18.5 points and 12.0 rebounds in two contests last week, with double-doubles in both outings.  In a 78-71 loss at Texas Tech, the senior forward had 19 points and 12 rebounds.  He followed that performance with 18 points and 12 boards as the Cyclones dropped an 84-61 decision to No. 3 Kansas.  He shot 44.8 percent (13-of-29) in two games, including 5-of-9 (.556) from 3-point range.  He is the first Big 12 player since Kevin Durant (Texas) to record double-doubles in the first four Big 12 games of their career.  Gilstrap has nine double-doubles on the year, third among conference athletes.  The five rookie recognitions is tied for the fourth-most in a single season in Big 12 history.
