Congratulations to the TEXAS A&M AGGIES!  Champions of the inaugural "Survivor Big XII." A late push (I mean REALLY late push) helped propel the Aggies to victory. At the start of the Wednesday Big 12 basketball games the Aggies were down nearly 2-to-1, but pulled through to win with 58% of the vote.

The Aggies persevered through thick and thin, and were the beneficiaries of some timely losses by the competition to take home the prize.

This just goes to show you, kids reading at home, that you don't have to be the tallest or the strongest or the fastest to get ahead in life. No, what it tells you is that if you sustain yourself and fight through the bad times that you too can win at anything you put your mind to.

Lastly, I hope everyone had fun with this game. Due to overwhelming popularity it will be back next season, unless I can come up with a cheesier different idea. If you have any thoughts, feel free to submit them to me.

Survivor Big XII is the weekly quest to see who really is the top team in the Big XII.

Well folks, I feel like it's Senior Night here at Big 12 Hoops as the entire season has been building to this point, and after Wednesday... well, our favorite in-blog contest will be gone.

But before I start weeping at the mic, we need to PICK A CHAMPION!

This week, since we only have two teams remaining, we're gonna shake it up a little.  Instead of kicking someone off Big 12 Island,  we're gonna vote for who SHOULD REMAIN ON THE ISLAND and be crowned champ.

So weigh your votes carefully, and cherish hitting the submit button, since you won't be able cast your vote again for many moons.

AND REMEMBER WE ARE VOTING FOR WHO STAYS ON THE ISLAND!

The Tribe has spoken.  It's time to go... Kansas Jayhawks AND Mizzou Tigers.

Uhhh, 1567 votes were cast this week. That's right... 1567 votes. Which is only, oh, 15 times the normal number of votes cast during a typical Survivor week. And of the 1567 votes, a single vote was punched for K-State, so I can unequivocally say that they deserve to be in the final round.

The other 1566 votes were spread amongst the other three school, which made sense, considering they all had lost one the previous week.

Of the remaining 1566 votes, Kansas received 648 (41%) and Mizzou 535 (34%). The next lowest man on the totem poll, a good thing in Survivor, was Texas A&M with 383 (24%) votes.

Hopefully the Survivor momentum will continue into next week's finale, where the Wildcats and Aggies will duke it out for the trophy, crown or whatever cheap tchotchke (yes, I did have to look up the spelling)  I come up with and decide to present to somebody in some way related to the winning school.

So come back on Monday and vote who will REMAIN on Big 12 Island.

We are down to the mythical FINAL FOUR, and like the actual Final Four, (but mostly because of a time crunch) we are going to go ahead and KICK TWO TEAMS OFF this week, leaving us with a pair to battle it out next week for the title of Survivor Big 12 Champion.

The Tribe has spoken.  It's time to go... Baylor Bears.

Losses are intensified this late in the season. Don't believe me? Ask Baylor, who lost to a good Oklahoma State team IN STILLWATER and still got 60% of the vote.

It's getting down to the point where a non-convincing win might get you kicked off Big 12 Island.

The Tribe has spoken.  It's time to go... Texas Longhorns.

The first shocker in the 6 weeks of Survivor was this week's ousting of one of the preseason conference favorites. Their season thus far hasn't lived up to Texas-sized expectations and you consequently voted them off. Despite best efforts from Burnt Orange Nation, the Mizzou rallying cry on Rock M Nation was just a little bit stronger.

Before a final push against the 'Horns it looked like the "dsmba Rule" might be invoked, as Texas and Missouri were neck and neck in the polls. But, like what happened on the hardwood on Wednesday, a super-majority of the vote on Wednesday pushed Texas off "Big 12 Island."

We are now down to 5. Come back Monday to vote on who will be the next one (or two) kicked off Big 12 Island.

Survivor Big XII is the weekly quest to see who really is the top team in the Big XII.

After kicking two off last week we are down to six teams remaining on "Big 12 Island." Colorado and Oklahoma St were the victims of the "dsmba rule." Proposed by reader dsmba, since the two schools were close enough in voting the council decided it was time to boot them both off.
