Oklahoma St. Cowboys Basketball
Answers to Five Questions For: Oklahoma St Cowboys Basketball
At the start of the season, B12H.com ran a "Five Questions For..." segment asking the five most pressing questions of each team. In our continuing review of the season, here are the answers to those questions.
Five Questions For... Oklahoma State basketball
1) Will Travis Ford's first full recruiting class bring a Big 12 championship to Stillwater?
No. They did win some big games, though. The biggest was handing the Jayhawks their lone conference loss, but they never really contended for a conference championship spot.
2) With the loss of Byron Eaton, yet 4 of the top 6 scorers returning, can the Cowboys continue to put lots of points on the board?
The Cowboys finished the season as the 8th highest scoring team in the conference. So, no, they couldn't scorch the nets like they had in year's past. In fact, the Pokes didn't top 100 pts in any game this year, although the netted 97 in a rivalry game vs Oklahoma.
3) How much better can James Anderson get?
Wow. Much, MUCH better. The Big 12 Player of the Year added 4 ppg on top of his 2008-09 18 ppg, increased his rebounding to 5.8 rpg and added an additional assist to his daily tab, registering 2.4 a game.
4) Obi Muonelo played out of position last year. Will the right placement on the floor help the senior better his 12.7 ppg average from last year?
Muonelo had a great year, and although his rpg dropped form 7.2 to 5.0, his ppg increased to 13.3. So moving him to a guard position did help to increase his scoring.
5) OK State will be bigger this year... but also slower. Will that hinder their ability to run with some of the Big 12 teams?
Yes, although their brisuing style did help them beat some uptempo teams like K-State and KU. Having Anderson on their side, helped them to be able to contain a half court set, as his ability and size proved to be a mismatched every game.
Season Recap: Oklahoma State Cowboys
Now that the college basketball season is officially over, we're going to take a look back at each Big 12 school to discuss their season. The rundown will go in order of conference standing. See the complete schedule after The Jump.
What Went Right: By most measures Oklahoma St is probably at home right now, happy with the results of their year. Probably not giddy with excitement like some other Big 12 schools, but there isn't much to complain about. They had an entertaining year, which included handing Kansas their lone conference loss of the season. They had the Big 12 Player of the Year in James Anderson. They made the dance with a 22-11 record, 9-7 in conference. All told they had a good, but not spectacular season.
What Went Wrong: Besides the KU win, there weren't many Ws that stick out from the season. The throttling of a depleted Oklahoma team might come to mind, as would a Baylor W and a win in Manhattan the game after K-State defeated then #1 Txas, but all told, nothing really sticks out. A three game conference losing streak and losses to Rhode Island and Tulsa are probably what will stick in the minds of Cowboy fans.
Team MVP: GImme a second on this one... ok got it. Nope... lemme look again. Hmmm, tough one but I';m gonna side with James Anderson and his league-leading 22.3 ppg.
Key Losses: Guard Obi Muonelo graduates and Anderson has declared for the NBA draft.
Outlook Next Year: I don't foresee Ok State competing at the level they did this year. The losses of their two leading scorers in Anderson and Muonelo are just too huge to overcome. Keiton Page will be called upon to raise his scoring, but I envision a Willie Warren-type of decline in his scoring with Anderson's departure (just as Warren's scoring dropped with the departure of Blake Griffin). I see them hovering just under .500 in conference.

Cowboys gain commitment from four-star recruit Michael Cobbins
Michael Cobbins, a 6-foot-9 power forward and OSU’s lone recruiting visitor for the weekend, gave the Cowboys his pledge before leaving Stillwater.
A four-star rated recruit and the No. 51 prospect overall by Scout.com, Cobbins is a senior at Palo Duro High in Amarillo, Texas.
"I was looking at the style of play and it’s similar to what we play now," Cobbins told the web site. "Once you get the rebound you go, and that’s how we play in high school right now."
Page 2: My Favorite Sports Memory with Travis Ford, Oklahoma State men's basketball coach
Travis Ford was a point guard for Kentucky at the time and was on the floor when Laettner hit that shot. Yet, that’s not the most memorable sports moment for the Oklahoma State men’s basketball coach.
"My biggest sports memory was one I was a part of," Ford said. "The LSU game, when we were down 31 points at LSU, with 15 minutes left in the game and we came back and won.
"That was maybe the biggest comeback in the history of college basketball."
