Don't call it a comeback: he's been here for years.

Have you noticed it at all? It's been slow and gradual but it's also been clear as day.

If you have a good memory.

Rodney Terry left Rick Barnes' staff in Austin to become the head coach at Fresno State last season. Sure it seemed like a weird place to go at first but hey, he's good at what he does. Maybe we'll hear his name once every five years and say "oh yeah" during March if the Bulldogs make the tournament.

Predictably, the Bulldogs stunk it up, finishing their 13-20 season with a sixteen point loss to New Mexico State in the quarterfinals of the WAC tournament. But there was reason for optimism. It's one of those situations where only the people in the program, not you or me, can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

But the way talent has trickled into Fresno, they may be closer than they think. And, for Terry, the source of that talent is a familiar one.

Back in August 2011, Braeden Anderson was all set to be a freshman power forward at Kansas. Unfortunately, the NCAA deemed Anderson as a partial qualifier in September and was unable to receive any financial aid from the Big 12, which then made him ineligible to play at KU.

A month after that, Anderson announces his intention to transfer to Fresno State because they accept partial qualifiers and will provide them with financial aid.

Anderson took second semester classes at FSU and will be eligible to play for the Bulldogs this fall.

"Fresno is a really good fit for me. I really like the coaches there. I'm a West Coast kid at heart. I have a ton of family in California," Anderson said after the announcement.

Yeah but he's just a small part of a recruiting class that was mostly ineligible anyway. Move along, nothing to see here.

Haha, moving along:

Fast forward to April 14. While some of you were finishing up your taxes, class of 2012 center Robert Upshaw (#55 on the ESPN 100/#52 on the Rivals150) decommitted from Kansas State upon Frank Martin taking the South Carolina job. No one knew what he would do next. ESPN's Dave Telep tweeted out USC, Oklahoma State, Ohio State, UNLV, Oregon and Washington as possible destinations for the big man.

Guess where he signs his national letter of intent.

The very next day.

Yep.

"The real thing about it is, I had a relationship with coach Terry that's been lasting for the last four years. That's what really turned me on," Upshaw said then.

Ok that's one BIG NAME guy. It isn't unheard of for a top-100 talent to commit to a mid-major. You're reading too much into this.

Watch this.

Let's go back a week when we hear Oklahoma State starting PG Cezar Guerrero is going to transfer from the program to be closer to his mother in Los Angeles.

Nine days pass and after considering schools like Washington State, Long Beach State, UTEP and New Mexico State, Guerrero is fixing to land at FSU. He's essentially going from one of the best PGs in his old conference to arguably the best in the new one. Cray.

After reviewing these "transactions," taking the job was such a genius move by Terry. The optimism he has is stemming from Fresno State's new conference affiliation with the Mountain West Conference. The MWC has been one of the more competitive non-AQ leagues in America. Given his recruiting skills/connections, it won't be hard for Terry to convince guys to go to Fresno when they're playing the likes of UNLV, San Diego State, New Mexico and Colorado State every year.

Either Terry will continue to give Big 12 coaches fits on the recruiting trail or Fresno State will be the newest member of the Big 12.

"That would suck," said every Big 12 coach.

It's out! Lust away!

What's that you ask? You want more television schedules to lust over? OK!

The Big 12 released their round-robin schedule for the 2012-13 season today (!), though of course, the games will be played just after the New Year.

This will mark the 2nd year the conference will be using the RR format since officially going to 10 teams in 2011. I think I'd rather have the Big 12 staying with 10 teams for the rest of its existence. Think about the missed opportunities from just a year ago if it weren't for the RR format. Who knows if Kansas State makes the tournament had it not been for that late-season run starting with the Baylor game they won in Waco? Will we have seen memorable games like Iowa State guard Scott Christopherson's buzzer-beater to beat Oklahoma State or Baylor and Missouri's nip-and-tuck battle at the Ferrell Center?

Probably. But the fact is, you can't decide a true regular season champion any better than the RR.

With that, here is the full sked.

I hope you didn't make a brown, coach.

If I've got my days right, we are officially at the halfway point of the college basketball offseason (sigh). With that, we've got ESPN whetting our appetites with announcing the Big 12 half of their Big Monday schedule.

And it's a good one. Really good, in fact.

National runner-up Kansas will make a conference-high four appearances on the slate while newbie-to-the-league West Virginia, Baylor and Texas will make three appearances apiece. Kansas State will be on twice.

The Iowa State Cyclones make their long-awaited return to Big Monday while both Oklahoma schools will also be on once. The full schedule (with a lame attempt at analysis) is after the jump.

January 14: Baylor at Kansas 8pm CT

This will be the first game since the two conference heavyweights went at it during the Big 12 tournament in March. Kansas will be stacked and so will Baylor. Getcha popcorn ready.

January 21: Oklahoma State at Baylor 4:30pm CT AND Texas at Oklahoma 8:30pm CT

These are the weakest Big 12 games since ESPN went to the Big East/Big 12 doubleheader on MLK Day. Oklahoma State is bound to improve from last year with the recruits coming in alongside sophomore Le'Bryan Nash, so the first game could be good for maybe a half. OK now the second game. I get that it's a rivalry game but it looks like a major mismatch on paper. It wouldn't look attractive to the national audience, considering whatever blockbuster Big East game is preceding it.

January 28: Kansas at West Virginia 8pm CT

West Virginia will make their first-ever Big Monday appearance at 9pm ET. Sure it's not the same as playing a Big East team but Kansas coming in is not too bad of a consolation prize. Too bad we won't see something like this again, though.

February 4: Texas at West Virginia 8pm CT

After seeing Texas struggle to get in the tournament, this Longhorn bunch is older and much more talented. Myck Kabongo and Sheldon McClellan are the cornerstones. Don't know how Deniz Kilicli will deal with Texas' bigs.

February 11: Kansas State at Kansas 8pm CT

On the surface, it's the Sunflower Showdown but it is also the Battle of the Last Two Coaches of Illinois Basketball. Maybe that's not important, but after yet another tumultuous season for Bruce Weber, he unexpectedly landed feet first as head coach of Kansas State. Wildcat fans are still upset about the hire much like Missouri fans were after Frank Haith got the job. Not saying the same instant success will happen for Bruce, but this could really work out for K-State in the long run. Oh and the game? Kansas. Didn't have to think about it.

February 18: West Virginia at Kansas State 8pm CT

Love, love, love this game. Bob Huggins will make his return to the Octagon of Doom and the basketball culture that he helped revive. Two teams with similar styles of old school, tough-nosed basketball will be a welcome sight to see. Hopefully, this'll be the start of a long and prosperous rivalry.

February 25: Kansas at Iowa State 8pm CT

Who could forget Iowa State's upset win against Kansas last year that brought Cyclone basketball back to national relevance? ISU will be a completely different basketball team but they're loaded with transfers again with former Michigan Stater Korie Lucious and ex-Utah Ute Will Clyburn. As long as those two guys are hitting their threes, there's always a chance.

March 4: Baylor at Texas 8pm CT

There will be a lot of young talent on the floor in this one. And the featured matchup here will be between freshmen centers/massive humans Isaiah Austin and Cameron Ridley. Austin is a 7-footer who handles the ball well and can beat you inside or out. The 6-10 Ridley has good size, strength and a vastly improved offensive game, Should be fun.

Eight former Heisman Trophy winners have been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but the one that stands out the most as having the best NFL career of any Heisman Trophy winner has to be former Oklahoma St. Cowboys running back Barry Sanders.

Though Sanders played on some pretty bad teams with the Detroit Lions, he was a man amongst boys in the backfield. A simple YouTube search for Barry Sanders highlights will show you things that'll make your head spin. Despite not having a solid offensive line to protect him, Sanders led the league in rushing four times and eclipsed the 2000 yard barrier in his second-to-last season, rushing for 2053 in 1997.

In total, Sanders rushed for 15,269 yards, good for third all time, while averaging an astonishing five yards per carry over his career, a mark only surpassed by Jim Brown among the top 25 rushing leaders in NFL history. He also slides into the ninth spot with 99 career rushing touchdowns and 15th all-time with a total of 109 scores.

But besides the numbers, the former Big 8 running back was just fantastic to watch. With his diminutive 5-8 frame, Sanders would often be engulfed by a gigantic defensive lineman, only to escape -- seconds after you thought the play was dead -- sprinting down the sidelines.

Now people may argue that Paul Hornung, Roger Stabauch or OJ Simpson belong in the discussion of the Heisman Trophy winner with the best NFL career, but ask any Big 8 fan around when Barry was tearing up the conference, and they'll tell you undoubtedly Barry was the best

I remember campaigning for Vince Young during the 2005 Heisman Trophy race. It was mostly due to the Texas Longhorns conference affiliation and a bitter hatred for anything USC Trojans, but either way I had my burnt orange pom-poms out during the season.

But despite my fandom - and a propensity to argue about most anything - I really thought the voters chose right in giving the award to Reggie Bush. Bush's stats, and his ability to help lead one of the most potent offenses in recent college football memory, surely was enough for me to understand why he ended up with the highest percent of points possible in the history of the award. Sure, there were questions about his eligibility, about agents and his parent's living situation, but he was the best player to suit up that season.

Then everything came to light in 2010, Bush forfeited the award and the Heisman Trust decided to leave it vacated.

This is a travesty.

Outside of Bush, Young was the most deserving recipient of the award. At the time of the voting he had led his team to an undefeated season and a spot in the national championship game. He ended up throwing for 3036 yards and 26 TDs, while rushing for another 1050 yards and 12 scores. And most importantly to the crux of this argument, he came in second in voting.

So, Heisman Trust, I beg of you, please give the award to its rightful owner, Vince Young. He was more than deserving before the award was vacated and even more so once it became abandoned.

Whatever their strategy was, ESPN decided to release their schedule for this year's 24 hour college hoops marathon on the slowest day of the sports calendar.

Right after Chiefs-Steelers on Monday Night Football, America will be ushered into the marathon with West Virginia taking on Gonzaga in a rematch of sorts from a second round game in the 2012 NCAA Tournament. Since I'm finding out about this game today, it goes without saying that the Bulldogs have a Big 12 heavy non-conference schedule. You should all be copying Gonzaga's notes, everyone else. Also, for a game to be a blowout last March, they sure gotta lotta love during One Shining Moment.

Later in the evening, national runner-up Kansas has a date with the Michigan State Spartans in the opener of the Champions Classic. The two have had recent history but it hasn't gone well for the Jayhawks. KU played Sparty in January and again in March 2009, but only managed to score 62 points in both losses.

Before jumping into any conclusions, this is just the schedule that'll air on ESPN. The games on ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN3 has yet to be determined. Their press release says sixteen conferences will be represented in the marathon, so get ready for some sweet, high-flying, death-defyingly awesome Houston Baptist hoops! (Being a Houstonian, it really is a big deal for them). Go Huskies!

Big 12 football fans have been graced with the honor of watching 15 Heisman trophy winners from current or former members of the conference. Not surprisingly the Oklahoma Sooners lead all conference schools with five winners: Billy Vessels in 1952, Steve Owens in 1969, Billy Sims in 1978, Jason White in 2003 and Sam Bradford in 2008.

Former conference mate the Nebraska Cornhuskers have had three winners in Johnny Rodgers (1972), Mike Rozier (1983) and Eric Crouch (2001), while the Texas Longhorns have had two winners: Earl Campbell (1977) and Ricky Williams in 1998. The other five winners have been the lone representatives of their respective schools: TCU Horned Frogs Davey O'Brien won the award in 1938, Texas A&M Aggies John David Crow was the 1957 winner, Barry Sanders won the award for the Oklahoma St. Cowboys in 1988, Rashaan Salaam of the Colorado Buffaloes won in 1994 and the incumbent is Baylor Bears quarterback Robert Griffin III.

But aside from these 15, if I had to choose one Heisman trophy winner that I wished played in the Big 12 it would undoubtedly be Eddie George of the Ohio St. Buckeyes.

Not only was George a punishing runner who would have fit in nicely in the ground game that dominated the Big 12 when it formed the year after George took home the prize in 1995, but his community spirit and pro career would have done the conference proud.

Why Eddie? Well, truth be told, this is a homer pick. As has been written a bunch on this site, I was raised in Columbus, OH by two OSU grads and had Buckeyes season tickets my entire life (still do, actually). 1995 was also my first year at Mizzou, so being a bit homesick, I studied and dedicated most of my Autumn Saturdays to George's exploits on the gridiron back home.

My love affair for George actually blossomed when I was looking at schools and decided to visit Michigan State. My mom and I planned our visit around OSU's game in East Lansing and after touring the campus on Friday we sat in the visitor's section for that following Saturday's game between the Spartans and Buckeyes. I knew of Eddie before the game - what college football fan didn't - but it was in that game that George ran for 219 yards, including a career long 79-yard run from scrimmage and my obsession began. It also happened that we were seated directly behind Eddie's mom, and seeing the sheer joy in the sight of her son - a 6-3, 235 lb running back - zip past everyone, including generally fleet of foot defensive backs was something to behold. It solidified how much I loved Eddie and told me that I wouldn't be able to go to another Big 10 school and root against my beloved Buckeyes. (As luck would have it, the Mizzou played OSU twice while I was in college... Corby Jones, meet Andy Katzenmoyer).

Eddie is also the reason I got so into Big 12 basketball. With the dominance that the Buckeyes showed on the gridiron, and my devotion to watching the Scarlet and Grey, I couldn't see myself truly dedicating enough energy to two football conferences, so I decided to watch Big 10 football in the Fall and only Big 12 hoops in the winter. Hence, here I am.

Anyway, enough of the Evan Pfaff bio. If you were to have one Heisman trophy winner from a different team transplanted onto your team, who would it be? Why?

Side Note: Now, why didn't I just attend tOSU, you ask? Well, being 5 miles from campus, I spent most of my formative years exploring the various spots along High Street and felt like I needed to expand my horizons

The Big 12 again showed why it could be considered the deepest conference in the country, as nine former Big 12 hoopsters were taken in last night's 2012 NBA Draft. The conference finished second to the SEC in terms of number of players drafted, and tied the SEC with the widest representation of schools called with five.

But despite the overall love the NBA showed the conference, I think individually the players were slighted. I get that the NBA and college are two different beasts, however I see only one Big 12 alum who was picked higher than I would have expected, Baylor's Quincy Acy at 37 to the Raptors.

Otherwise, I think conference MVP Thomas Robinson was slighted, though he did go fifth overall to the Sacramento Kings. I also think, talent wise, Royce White got the raw end of the deal, hearing his name called just outside the lottery, at 16 by the Houston Rockets.

Also, had you told me at the beginning of last season that Perry Jones III and Quincy Miller would have fallen so far, I would have said you were out of your mind. Now I understand that the knock on both was body frame and aggression, and I watched enough Baylor hoops to see why they were drafted when they were, however the NBA has a history of overvaluing projected talent, not necessarily what's shown on the court, and figured those two would go higher than 28 and 38 respectively.

Same with Khris Middleton. Despite being absent for most of last year, I thought the style of offense Texas A&M ran last year wasn't conducive to Middleton's style and a fast-paced NBA team would gobble him up and take him earlier than mid-second round.

But again, I follow college much more religiously than the pros, so this is all based on a different game. After the jump is a listing of all Big 12ers taken in last night's NBA Draft.
