The cover of this week's issue of Sports Illustrated is going to be graced by the highly-touted Kansas Freshman Andrew Wiggins, the top recruit in the class of 2013.
Here's the full Wiggins SI cover. I'll have the HQ version up tomorrow: pic.twitter.com/QSaJcaEmW5— RockChalkBlog.com (@RockChalkBlog) October 9, 2013
As you can see from the photo above, the cover story is comparing the freshman phenom Wiggins to other Kansas greats Wilt Chamberlain and Danny Manning, all three of whom were separated by about 30 years. The hype is going to keep growing for Wiggins as college basketball season is getting closer and closer, and the large Kansas fan base keeps getting more and more excited.
Wiggins is certainly being hyped very much, and I am honestly not sure of exactly how good he's going to be, as he's never played a second of college ball, leading me to be a little skeptical of the cover story that is comparing him to two of the best Kansas players ever. I don't usually buy into hype for freshmen, but Wiggins seems to be a unique freshman that can make an immediate impact, which has certainly got me excited for the coming basketball season. Thankfully for Wiggins though, he's going to have a very skilled team and coach to help him maximize his abilities to the fullest extent.
Although, it's a neat connection that's been made by Sports Illustrated about the exact same time gap between the arrival of the three players, and I'll definitely be picking up a copy to read. Wiggins won't have the same amount of time to make his mark on Kansas like Manning and Chamberlain had, as he's no doubt going to be a one-and-done player who will more than likely be picked first overall in the NBA Draft, meaning he's going to be very determined to make his own unique mark on Kansas, a school that is rich in basketball tradition and heritage.
