The race has really tightened up.
KU made it through it’s toughest part of the schedule with just 1 loss. If they win in AFH against Missouri, I think the best Missouri can hope for is a tie.
Last week I said the most likely result would be MU & KU tied and the second most likely result would be MU wins it outright. But now that KU has won @Baylor and @KSU, I now think the second most likely result is KU wins it outright. The most likely result is still a KU & MU tie.
In order for a tie to happen...
KU would need to lose another and beat MU at home. Which does KU lose to?

The most likely game for KU to lose is @Ok St...
2 days after the giant game against Missouri. I can definitely see a let-down there. I am assuming that KU will go 1-1 in their last 2 games.
And, yes, i think KU will beat Missouri in AFH. KU has been UP for every big game this year. tOSU, Baylor twice, Duke, Georgetown, and even the Missouri game in Columbia, in all those games KU played really well. They had some bad luck right at the end against Duke and @MU, but they played well enough that they should have won all those games. Big game like that plus in AFH, I just don’t see them losing that. The only big game KU did not play well in was the UK game way back in early Nov.
On the other hand, KU has tended to play poorly the game AFTER big games. Davidson was after the big tOSU win. KU played poorly and was lucky to beat Texas after the first big Baylor game. The 2nd Baylor game was an exception to that because I think they were pretty angry after the Missouri loss, even so KU still came out flat in the first half of that game.
Oh, and it is possible for KU to lose to MU again and still tie for the Big 12 title.
There are no tie breakers for conference titles. If the conference records are the same, they declare co-champions and they both get trophies.
That would, of course, mean that Missouri would have to lose again as well. I think this scenario is pretty unlikely, but it could happen.
Agree on Mizzou
Outside of KU, their two toughest remaining games are both at home: K-State and ISU. At A&M on Saturday was supposed to be a tough one, but we all know how that ended up.
For KU, I would have agreed on Ok State before last night’s debacle in Columbia. I’d now guess that if they’d lose one it’d be home vs Texas, but that is a HUGE if.

I think Ok State is a much different team when they play in Stillwater.
They beat Missouri. They beat ISU & OU. They lost a squeeker to Baylor. The only Big 12 team that handled them well in Stillwater was KState. Couple that with KU’s tendency to play poorly after big wins and that game in Stillwater just screams upset, at least to me.
Really?
You seem to be mistaking “Power Rankings” with standings. I’m a bit of a stats nerd so I would argue that you overvalue wins and losses relative to other metrics.
1 Kansas
2 Mizzou
3 Baylor
4 Texas
5 Iowa State
6 K State
7 OK State
8 Aggies
9 Tech
10 Oklahoma
My rankings
MU beat KU on the court. They have the same number of losses in conference. As of now MU gets the higher ranking.
And I get that Tech beat OU, but Tech is 1-12 and OU 3-10… OU has to be ranked higher, right? (Plus they beat Tech earlier in the season)

That's fine, it's just
That’s fine, it’s just that the crux of your argument is what my comment was criticizing. I think you overvalue wins and losses. I watched Mizzou beat Kansas and I came away thinking that Kansas was better and Mizzou had an amazing comeback at home (reasonable people can disagree and create their own narratives here).
Other than that I tend to think of Power Rankings as a what-have-you-done-lately rating, and I don’t think Oklahoma has won a game in February, which is also why I have Texas above Iowa State, but I am a Texas homer, so I tend to pick narratives that place my team in a positive light, and, as an inverse, I piss on my rivals.
Really?
You seem to having mistaken luck with, well ignorance. Did you miss when kU lost to MU, and if you watched the game Monday, they would’ve lost that game had Kstate been able to make a layup late. Are you simply looking at conference standings/ wins and losses or the entire season? 2 losses is ALWAYS better than 5 losses, ALWAYS.
I find it funny that
You mention luck, and immediately follow it up with:
Did you miss when kU lost to MU
Your argument is valid, in that I too believe that it should be decided on the court, and right now Missouri has that advantage having won the only meeting so far.
However, your reasoning is flawed. Two losses is better than 5, but a SOS of 4 is also better than a SOS of 68. And if you only want to look at W and L’s, let’s go grab Murray St. They’d be thrilled to sit atop your power rankings.

really...
You can say SOS matters until a few things factor in, MU has beaten kU. It’s not like Murray St, they’ve played no one so to rank them higher than kU would be silly. MU has played a number of ranked teams this year and lost to none of them, they have however lost to k State and Ok St which is probably 2 better losses than Davidson and ISU add 2 more losses and a head to head loss you have kU.. kind of silly you could even argue that kU deserves to be higher than Mizzou, maybe if Mizzou lost another.
Here's the problem
You’re arguing that MU should be ranked above KU for all the wrong reasons. What matters is that it was done on the court. Case closed. Leave it at that. Instead you start spouting off and shooting holes in your argument, Here’s another example:
they have however lost to k State and Ok St which is probably 2 better losses than Davidson and ISU
RPI’s: ISU 37, Davidson 70
K-State 63, OSU 108
How are those better losses? You’d be better off pointing to the court and ending it at that. Instead you try to cite examples that backfire on you. Now run along and go work on your capital K’s.

Trying to have an intelligent conversation with a person who thinks it's important to use a lowercase letter is a waste of time.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
Rock Chalk Talk
I don't understand the relevence of this statement:
“and if you watched the game Monday, they would’ve lost that game had Kstate been able to make a layup late.”
The same could be said about several very close Missouri wins. And Missouri DID lose at KSU by much more than a layup. So how is that relevent here?
AsTriston27 vaildly pointed out, the number of losses is not ALWAYS what determines which team is playing better, which is what power rankings are about.
Your logic is pretty flawed. I mostly agree with the power rankings here though. Until KU and MU play again on the 25th, Missouri has the lead in head-to-head and deserves to be ranked at the top, for now.
