Big 12 Basketball Power Rankings - Week 10
After last night's huge conference game, we have a new top team in our Power Rankings. Though outside of that, no other movement.

1. Kansas JayhawksOverall Record: 15-3 (5-0 conference)Last Week's Record: 3-0 Last Week's Ranking/Movement: 2, up one spot What Nathan Says: KU's body of work > Mizzou's body of work |
2. Baylor BearsOverall Record: 17-1 (4-1)Last Week's Record: 2-1 Last Week's Ranking/Movement: 1, down one spot What Nathan Says: They'll look to bounce back against another top-10 team on Saturday: vs Missouri |
3. Missouri TigersOverall Record: 17-1 (4-1)Last Week's Record: 3-0 Last Week's Ranking/Movement: 3, same What Evan Says: Mizzou's problem is that they hit a dry spell each game. They tend to get up by 15+ then can't hit a shot. See the start of the second half vs A&M and midway through the second vs Texas. |
4. Kansas St. WildcatsOverall Record: 12-4 (1-3)Last Week's Record: 0-2 Last Week's Ranking/Movement: 4, same What Evan Says: Better than their conference records leads you to believe, but still a 1-3 start means they'll need to start a winning streak soon if they dream of an NCAA tourney. |
5. Iowa St. CyclonesOverall Record: 12-5 (2-2) |
6. Texas LonghornsOverall Record: 12-5 (2-2)Last Week's Record: 1-1 Last Week's Ranking/Movement: 6, same What E. Carnes Says: After being outshot by Mizzou, the Longhorns' brutal stretch of schedule continues. Next up is K-State and KU. |
7. Oklahoma SoonersOverall Record: 11-5 (1-3) |
8. Texas A&M AggiesOverall Record: 10-7 (1-4)Last Week's Record: 1-2 Last Week's Ranking/Movement: 8, same What E. Carnes Says: The good news is that the Aggies beat Tech, which I wasn't sure they could do. The bad news is... pretty much everything else. |
9. Oklahoma St. CowboysOverall Record: 9-8 (2-2) |
10. Texas Tech Red RaidersOverall Record: 7-9 (0-4) |

I had em 4th, you have em 5th. They are 1-3 with a brutal schedule but still 1-3. I have no idea what to do with them. At some point you have to win some games, right?

agree
If you want to win the conference and get a high seed in the tourament you have to beat teams like Oklahoma on the road. It is ok to go 1-2 against the top 3 in the conference but saturday was bad. Especially on the defensive end for K-state.

I agree with you guys mostly.
I am not sure Texas is better than OU, but I am not sure they aren’t either.
KU’s 5-0 start is impressive but they have yet to play a top half Big 12 team on the road. Baylor, Missouri, KSU, and ISU all have and all lost.
body of work??
How is Kansas body of work “>” than mizzou? Tougher schedule for sure, but they lost to the best two teams, Duke and Kentucky, and then lost to Davidson! Mizzou has the second best winning points diff in the nation and only lost to a ranked team on the road. Kansas beat the Hoyas early in the year and haven’t played and beat anyone else. Mizzou has taken teams apart! I’ll be impressed when KU beats Baylor, Mizzou, K-State, or any top half team on the road!

You shouldn't be so quick to dismiss the Ohio State win
Even without Sullinger, Ohio State is still a top ten team, right?
For what it is worth, SRS ranks Kansas as the number 3 team in the country right now, and puts them significantly better than either Baylor or Missouri.

I will grant you...
that only Missouri has beaten a top half Big 12 team on the road. But Missouri hardly took ISU apart in that game. Good road win though.
You can’t fault KU for not having any top half road wins in the Big 12 though, because they have not had any opportuinities yet. They are unbeaten in the the Big 12 and no one else can say that. I find it hard to argue with putting them at the top of the power rankings, at least for now.
Both KU and Missouri will get to show how well they play on the road before it’s over.
agreed
The beauty of the true round robin! We will definitely know who is king of the hill. A shame it can’t be that way every year for every conference.

According to Sagrain
KU has the 5th toughest SOS and Mizzou has the 214th.

yes and...
CBSsports.com RPI has MU SOS as 104th. Means nothing. I can schedule my High school team to play the Lakers, Heat, and Bulls, but if I don’t win a single game are we awesome just for trying? I’m not saying thier SOS isn’t better, I’m saying they haven’t won a big game on the road, or even a neutral court since the Hoyas. AND… Lost to Davidson in their back yard. Body of work just doesn’t hold up.
