Big 12 Basketball Predictions Sure To Backfire - Week 3

Each week we will make predictions on all the league's conference games. We'll also be joined by a different SB Nation Big 12 blogger to weigh in with their thoughts. Check back throughout the week to see how much (or little?) we all know.

This week we're proud to have ccmachine from OU's Crimson and Cream Machine

And post your predictions in the comments section. If we like your picks we might ask you to be a guest picker... so take your chance and put your thoughts out for everyone to read. Also keep track of your record to see how you compare with our picks.

What We're Saying
Joe: Couple of upsets I thought about picking but just couldn't quite pull the trigger.
Nathan: The toughest game to choose had nothing to do with the Big 12. UNLV bringing back the Runnin' in Runnin' Rebels has helped them pull upsets early on. SDSU is another surprise in the MWC despite losing a lot from last yr's Sweet 16 club. Big 12 wise, all eyes are on the Big Monday battle in Lawrence, and you guessed it, BU survives.
Evan: Two streaks come to an end this week: Baylor loses their first and A&M wins their first. Though if either of those weren't to happen, I'd say Tech has a better shot at winning at hapless A&M than Baylor does at Phog. I just see Thomas Robinson neutralizing Perry Jones III and the rest falling into place for the Jayhawks.
E. Carnes: We know Baylor is good, but I'm curious to see if they're good enough to win at Allen Fieldhouse.
ccmachine: Baylor is quickly emerging as not only the best team in the Big XII but also one of the best in the country. They are currently teetering on a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament and games this week against Oklahoma State and at Kansas will tilt them either closer or away from that honor. On the complete opposite end of the spectrum Oklahoma and Texas Tech may settle once and for all this week who is the worst team in the conference.

Yeesh

I’m the only one who picked Tech vs OU? They look better than their record

I almost picked Tech over A&M.

And over OU. I think they’re definitely better than their record indicates. And they’re improving with each game. Ended up going with A&M because Middleton looked like he had some fight left in him last night and with OU because if Pledger steps up, I don’t think Tech can answer.

But I wouldn’t be surprised if Tech won either game.

Wait...

Did you want Tech over OU or A&M? Or {drumroll please} BOTH?!?!

So tough to win on the road

But the first week of games had like 6 road teams winning, and I thought K-Satte had momentum. Guess home cooking beats momentum.

It is very tough on the road against a decent conference team.

That’s why I think the most impressive win so far this year in Big 12 play is the Baylor win over KSU. Just could not pick them to repeat that versus KU.

Kudos on the OU call.

So far, they’ve been the team that surprises me most on a week-to-week basis.

The Sooners are playing better team ball than they did last year.

They are better than their 0-3 start would indicate. They are not going to win a lot of road games in the Big 12, I don’t think, but they will surprise some people in Norman. The road is so stinking tough in the Big 12 this year it’s almost comical.

KU is better than people think so OU’s loss to KU in Norman is not that bad a loss. And the Sooners played KU even for all but about a 10 min stretch in that game. The OSU loss was to an in-state rival on the road so I don’t think that is as bad a loss as it looks like on paper. Many teams are going to have trouble in Columbia this year. That’s how a decent OU team ends up starting Big 12 play 0-3. Kruger is a good coach and I am not surprised he was able to keep them from giving up on the season. I expect they will win the majority of their home games but not many road games.

i was surprised to see

only two baylor picks in the bears/ku matchup. i like jones III (what is it about baylor and III’s, anyway?) and the men from waco in this one. or maybe i’m just thinking with my heart.

What do you have against the ring-tailed lemur?
