Lon Kruger is expected to be named coach of the Oklahoma Sooners.

Kruger, currently the UNLV head coach, will be returning to a conference he is familiar with, as he both played and coached at Kansas State prior to leading the Florida Gators, Illinois Fighting Illini and UNLV Runnin' Rebels.

In total, Kruger has coached for 25 years at five schools and amassed a career 479-304 record (61.2 win percentage). Kruger coached the 1994 Gators to the Final Four and reached the 1987 Elite Eight with K-State.

For the past seven seasons Kruger has led the Runnin' Rebels to a 161-71 record, winning two Mountain West Conference tournament titles.

A native of Silver Lake, Kansas, the 58-year old Kruger should fit into the Big 12 landscape nicely.

Kruger will take over for Jeff Capel who was fired on March 14. After five season in Norman, Capel was 96-69 (61.2 win percentage) but had finished 11th in the conference the past two seasons.
