Texas’ Tristan Thompson To Return For Sophomore Year

Stay connected for news and updates

During NCAA off-day interviews, Texas Longhorns freshman big man Tristan Thompson told reports that he expects to return to Austin for his sophomore season, according to a tweet by Yahoo! Sports' Jason King.

During his freshman season the rookie out of Brampton, Ontario, Canada -- by way of Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nevada -- was second on the team in scoring at 13.3 points per game and led Texas with 7.8 rebounds per game.

There is always speculation about the longevity of a college player's career when they come in as a five-start recruit and ranked in the top 15 of most national prospect rankings, so Thompson's commitment to the Longhorns program is great news for Horns fans.

The Big 12 Freshman of the Year had 17 points and 10 rebounds in the Longhorns'  narrow victory over the Oakland Grizzlies on Friday and will square up with Arizona's Derrick Williams in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday evening in a game that tips at 5:10 p.m. CT on TNT.
