Missouri's Laurence Bowers Tears ACL, Out For Year

According to reports, Missouri Tigers forward Laurence Bowers tore his ACL on Monday during a team pick-up basketball game and is expected to redshirt this season. The senior from Memphis will have one year of eligibility remaining for the 2012-13 season.

In Bowers' absence, Mizzou will look to senior Steve Moore and redshirt freshman Kadeem Green to occupy his minutes.

During the Mizzou coaching search, the star forward entertained the idea of entering the NBA draft, but withdrew his name shortly before the deadline and opted to return for a senior season, which Mizzou is expected to contend for a conference championship. Bowers would have anchored a Tiger team laden with a wealth of experience, listing seven seniors on the roster.

Last season, Bowers was named to the Big 12 All-Defensive squad while securing an Honorable Mention on the All-Conference team. On the season, Bowers averaged career highs in points, rebounds, assists and blocks per game. He also shot a career best 75% from the free throw line.

Feel really bad for this kid and the program. Had a chance to be a part of something special again as a Senior. Don’t think they will be as good next season.

Hard to believe Missouri may be worse at rebounding this season.
