Big 12 Basketball Weekend Recap

Six Big 12 games took place yesterday and we had quite a few upsets.

See recaps, players of the game and scores after The Jump.

Star-divide

Missouri - 84
Oklahoma St - 66

in Boulder, CO

Marcus Denmon scored a career-high 22 points, Kim English had 21 points and Missouri routed Colorado 84-66 on Saturday.

The Tigers (17-6, 5-3 Big 12) led 42-39 at the break before pulling away early in the second half.

(1) Kansas - 75
Nebraska - 64

in Lawrence, KS

The noise in Allen Fieldhouse saved some Kansas players a little embarrassment Saturday night.

Nobody could overhear coach Bill Self chewing them out.

Whatever Self told them, it worked. Trailing Nebraska by four points in the opening minutes of the second half, the No. 1 ranked Jayhawks took their coach's words to heart and went on a 16-1 tear, finishing with a 75-64 victory for their 55th in a row at home.

Player of the Game: Marcus Morris, Kansas, 20 pts, 11 reb

Texas Tech - 81
Oklahoma St - 74

in Lubbock, TX

John Roberson scored a season-high 28 points to lead Texas Tech past Oklahoma State 81-74 on Saturday.

The win halted a two-game skid for the Red Raiders (15-7, 3-5 Big 12) and extended the Cowboys' losing streak to three.

(10) Kansas St. - 79
Iowa St - 75

in Ames, IA

Kansas State's Denis Clemente pulled off a seemingly impossible feat on Saturday. He fell onto the same Iowa State fan twice in one game.

The first time, Clemente said he asked the woman for some popcorn and a Coke. The second time, he jokingly wondered where it was.

The way Clemente was shooting, the Wildcats star should have been allowed to enjoy the snack.

Player of the Game: Craig Brackins, Iowa St, 29 pts, 12 reb

Oklahoma- 80
Texas - 71

in Norman, OK

Willie Warren showed it when he limped his way in for a key layup in the final two minutes.

Tommy Mason-Griffin and Cade Davis did, too, in the way they cramped up but came back to help Oklahoma hold off a charge from No. 9 Texas for an 80-71 victory Saturday.

On a day dedicated to Wayman Tisdale, coach Jeff Capel thought it was only right that his players gave their all in memory of the late Sooners star.

Full Recap
Player of the Game: Tommy Mason-Griffin, Oklahoma, 25 pts, 5 reb, 4 assists

Texas A&M - 78
(21) Baylor - 71

in College Station, TX

Texas A&M hasn't made 3-pointers with any consistency all season. That doesn't stop the Aggies from taking them.

The stubbornness paid off Saturday in a 78-71 victory over Baylor.

Keyed by B.J. Holmes' key three 3-pointers late, the Aggies (17-6, 6-3 Big 12) overcame a 12-point first-half deficit to deny Baylor (17-5, 4-4) its third consecutive victory.

Player of the Game: Bryan Davis,Texas A&M, 22 pts, 8 reb

K-State 2nd

The wildcats are in the drivers seat to get the #2 seed in the Big 12 tourney and push for a 2 in the ncaa tourney as well

I think K-State will win the conference.

Based on what I’ve seen, the Jayhawks are lacking an intangible that I cannot place. Maybe it’s Aldrich and his weak jumpshot. Maybe it’s Collins tendency to show up only when the game is in question. I’m not sure.

What I’ve seen out of K-State is a much more passionate team. Kansas trailed my 1-7 Huskers in the second half during both games this season, while K-State handed us our lunch from the start. Without Texas providing any real consistency, I think that the Wildcats are the team to beat in the Big 12.

I vote on the SB Power 16 rankings, and I have yet to place Kansas higher than 3rd. They seem to play down to their opponents level. If they can get some decent scoring from Aldrich ( I know, he’s in for defense), and get Collins to wake up…they might have a shot a deserving a #1 seed come March 18th.

K-State is good

and I agree, they can win the conference. That game in Manhattan may come back to haunt them though. In this conference you need to lock down your home court or else you get in trouble.
