Big 12 Individual Statistical Leaders - Early Season Look

Statistics are everywhere in sports most notably baseball & basketball. So while there is somewhat of a break in the amount of games being played I thought now would be a good time to take a look at the individual leaders in some of the major statistical categories.  I have cherry picked the categories shown here, choosing the ones that everyone is familiar with and not even trying to take a look into the more advanced basketball statistics.

Please let me know if  there are any other statistics anyone would like to know or follow in the Big 12 this year.

POINTS PER GAME

Player: Alec Burks - Colorado Buffaloes

Amount: 20.5

Analysis - Burks is a extremely talented player who benefits from being on a mediocre team so his scoring numbers might get inflated over others in the Big 12.

REBOUNDS PER GAME

Player: Quincy Acy - Baylor Bears

Amount: 9.3

Analysis - Acy is turning out to be a beast down low for Baylor which combined with Perry Jones & LaceDaruis Dunn makes the Bears scary.

ASSISTS PER GAME

Player: Tyshawn Taylor - Kansas Jayhawks

Amount: 6.3

Analysis - Shows that Taylor is embracing his role as the point guard on the team now that Sherron Collins is gone.

Star-divide

FIELD GOAL PERCENTAGE

Player: Marcus Morris - Kansas Jayhawks

Percent: 64% on 57-89 shooting

Analysis - This stat tells you that not only is Marcus Morris a very good player but a smart player as well who takes good shots.

THREE POINT FG PERCENTAGE

Player: Scott Christopherson - Iowa State Cyclones

Percent - 54.9%  on 39-71

Analysis - Basically the kid can shoot the ball and if anyone leaves him open then there is something wrong.

FREE THROW PERCENTAGE

Player: Khris Middleton - Texas A&M Aggies

Percent: 94.3% on 33-35 shooting

Analysis - This is a clear sign if anyone didn't know that Middleton doesn't play for Kansas State! All kidding aside this is an impressive stat especially in todays college game where free throws seem to be missed a lot.

BLOCKED SHOTS PER GAME

Player: Tristan Thompson - Texas Longhorns

Amount: 2.3

Analysis - Thompson gives UT some protection down low should guards try to drive to the basket.

MINUTES PLAYED PER GAME

Player: Cade Davis - Oklahoma Sooners

Amount: 36.5

Analysis - Jeff Capel needs Davis to play all he can this year to try and help keep the Sooners records from spiraling out of control.

You left out steals per game.

Which is currently being led by recently suspended Michael Dixon of Missouri at 2.44 per game. Brady Morningstar is in second place at 2.11 per game. Maybe he can catch up while Dixon is suspended.
