The Other End of 114-1
114-1 We've been hearing lots about the Big 12's record at home, especially now that the national outlets have caught on.
But I have a question for you, Iowa State fans, how does it feel to hear that stat? I am not trying to rub it in, just trying to figure out if my team were the "1" in "114-1" if it would hurt each time I saw the stat.
So, ISU fans, or fans in general, if a stat like that was shown over and over again, would you be on cloud 9 knowing you are a part of the 114 or would you feel the pain that you were the 1?

Ouch, that's rough
You’re right, there are two ways to take this:
1. So what? We’ve ONLY LOST ONE game at home. You want to fight about it?
2. Crap – even Colorado hasn’t lost at home yet…..
Surgeon General's Warning: K-State-Mizzou basketball may increase the risk of high blood pressure. Please consult your doctor prior to watching any of these games.
After tonight...114-4?
Three road teams (UT@ISU, KU@NU, MU@TTech) all win in one night?
the three best teams in conference on the road… should be interesting.

As far as I'm concerned
it comes with the territory when you decide to be an ISU fan.
"I am so proud to be your coach." -Paul Rhoads
and won't be nearly so bad
If ISU can pull some Hilton Magic out and keep it from becoming 114-2.

It feels
Probably the same as having an ISU blog outnumber your own readership on here.
Personally I don’t care about the 1, nor should anybody. It’s conference season now… Instead of actually watching a team and making an observation, just throwing this type of stuff out there. Anyone trying to make this a big deal is silly.
Look at CU. They have played Yale, Colorado Christian, Miami (OH), San Fran, Coppin State, etc. at home. Is that a shock they didn’t lose at home?
Now look at Nebraska. Hardest team they played at home was Oregon State.
If you did some research, you would see the “1” was against UNI, an instate rival, and team that is on a 13 game winning streak, the likely Missouri Valley Champs, and is going to be ranked in the next polls if they can avoid losing. A painful loss, yes, but a game that I could see Nebraska and Colorado losing as well.
Yes the Cyclones have been disappointing based on the talent they have, but losing 1 game at home in the non-conference, when no one else has done that is a little silly. Especially when the teams that are worse than ISU played easier schedules.
To me, this is just another example of a fellow SB Nation Big 12 blog trying to throw shit on the Cyclones. Congrats.
I didn't take his post like that
But, I’m not an Iowa State fan either. Nice showing against Texas last night, was really hoping you’d pull that off.

Non-conference is mostly a joke. For everyone. Directional schools nobody has ever heard of.
Northern Iowa is good. They will make the tourney.
Both points I agree on.
Hell, look at some of the neutral or road losses in the conference and there is nothing brag about there. Oral Roberts, Wichita State, San Diego etc.
I wrote this as a question wondering if the "1" resonated with ISU fans. Looks like it does. As a Mizzou guy, if the "1" was Mizzou I would look at it and my stomach would drop.
It is all moot now that road teams went 3-0 last night.
Didn’t mean to shit on anyone. Kinda constipated actually.

So...
Your answer is, “It doesn’t feel too good, but somewhat better now that ISU only has contributed 50% of Big XII home losses.”
Nope
My answer is “non-equitable stats are worthless”. If it was a different team, I’m sure the ESPNs, CBSes, etc., of the world would have let them off the hook more.
The fact is that the big schools typically only play hard non-conference games at neutral sites, and only play home games against teams they think they can beat, or have some contract playing (Like the Pac 10/Big 12 Series).
Iowa State lost at home against an NCAA quality team. If worse teams than ISU like Nebraska or Colorado played an NCAA quality team at home, they probably would have lost as well.
As an ISU fan, I hate we lost at home to UNI, in a game we should have won…. As a Big 12 fan, I could care less about the conferences combined record at home, during the non-conference portion of the schedule, particuarly when the hard teams are being played at neutral sites.

Agree with one point, kinda alluded to
During non-conference you want the other teams to do well to boost the conference, after conference begins, eff ’em, your team either wins or they lose. Darwinism.

Well...
At least we can agree that ISU kep the conference from a perfect non-conference home record. Forever. Go Kurt Warner and his Panthers.
Not that UNI is some powerhouse, but they have gone dancing 4 times in the past 6 years… They are a quality, regional team, that can pick a team off if they aren’t playing well.

No doubt...
Will never forget watching a certain March Madness game in 1990…

Most unappreciated team
Northern Iowa is 15-1 with a sweep of its state rivals, a perfect start in the Missouri Valley and a 14-game winning streak — and that’s not good enough for the poll voters?
